Clúid Housing – Irish Rental Sector Survey
24th Nov, 2020

Renters, homeowners and landlords are invited to have their say on Ireland’s rental sector.

Clúid Housing, Ireland’s largest Approved Housing Body (AHB), has launched a large-scale survey on the Irish rental sector with submissions invited from renters, homeowners and landlords.

Clúid’s Policy Adviser, Fiona Dunkin explains: “We want people to tell us what their experience has been. We want to hear from all sides of the housing spectrum, so we get a fuller picture of the things that matter most to people.”

Currently providing almost 8,000 homes to over 20,000 residents across the country, Clúid is the largest AHB in Ireland. As well as being a leader in the provision of social housing, Clúid plays a key role in informing the debate on housing policy in Ireland. Each year, the organisation publishes research on a range of housing topics with previous examples including fuel poverty, housing for older people, housing regeneration and Owners’ Management Companies (OMCs).

This year, Clúid has partnered with Irish Institutional Property (IIP), and KPMG Future Analytics to undertake research into the methods by which the sustainability and attractiveness of the rental sector might be improved in Ireland. A key objective of the project is to provide a robust evidence base to aid in supporting future decisions in relation to the sustainability of the rental sector by engaging with a range of stakeholders including those currently residing in each core housing tenure in Ireland (the private rental sector, social housing and home ownership), landlords/investors, relevant public officials and representatives from the social housing sector.

The project is particularly focused on five of Ireland’s largest cities – Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick and Waterford. It will also examine four further towns (Athlone, Castlebar, Letterkenny and Dundalk) in order to further contextualise the research and provide insight into how the rental sector is performing across smaller settlements of varying size and functions.

The survey is open from now until 4th January 2021.

The research will be used to produce a report highlighting how the rental sector in Ireland can be improved, for both renters and landlords. The report, which will be publicly available, will be launched in early 2021.
