National Tree Week 2022
15th Mar, 2022

National Tree Week takes place from 20th -26th of March and is a weeklong celebration of all things trees! Organised by the Tree Council, in partnership with Coillte, National Tree week is a time for us all to take a moment and visit one of our numerous woodlands to explore the wonderful world of trees!

On a more practical level, the Tree Council and Coillte are encouraging local resident associations and community groups to host or get involved in a tree planting event or a tree maintenance project. Or why not commemorate an event of significance in your community by planting a tree and organising a community celebration or get together to mark the occasion?

Laura Killalea, Resident Engagement Coordinator at Clúid, tells us that “many Local Authorities are giving free saplings to community groups and estates to plant in their local area, I would really encourage Housing Officers and resident groups to contact their Local Authority and see if they have anything planned for National Tree Week. It could be an excellent opportunity to get volunteers together to help at a local planting event in your own estates or areas. It is a great way to engage with your neighbours and community, and also benefit the environment”.

For more information on National Tree Week and their planned programme of events visit the National Tree Week website.
