A Warmer, More Efficient Home

In partnership with the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), Clúid replaced all of the poorly performing windows and doors in Tommy’s estate. Here he tells us what that meant to him.

The first thing was the doors and the windows, which made a huge difference because it’s made the house really quiet and draft-free.

They did a brilliant job on it. They’re great workers, they’re very efficient. All of my bills have come down since we’re after getting the new heating system as well, so I’ve no complaints about any of it, they did a great job on it. The house holds the heat really well now.

My ESB bill is about a third cheaper than it previously was, before the windows went in, so it’s a big difference.

They replaced all the windows because they were drafty and some of them leaked, and they replaced the doors as well, front and back, which were quite drafty. The old wooden doors weren’t great. The old windows were wooden too. The new windows have made a huge difference to the whole house.

We used to hear outside sounds, and you don’t hear them once you’ve your windows closed now. You’ll hear nothing. It’s like living in a little vacuum. It’s a very cosy little vacuum.

The one thing we’ve noticed with the new windows and doors is when you come in, in the evening, when you’re walking in, the house is actually warm, even though you’ve had no heat on, and it’s actually holding the heat.
